$100,000 grants for fighting extremism

Non-profit groups will be eligible for the grants as part of the new Building Community Resilience program.Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland said community organisations had demonstrated a strong commitment to tackling radicalisation at the grassroots level. "The new program will focus on activities that support individuals away from intolerant and radical ideologies and encourage positive participation in the community," he said today.Under the $9.7 million program, non-profit groups can apply for grants of between $5000 and $100,000.Applications close on April 29, with funding becoming available from July 1.Individuals, companies, political parties and government agencies will not be eligible for funding under the guidelines.
