Oz cricketers association welcomes review to manage injury crises
Australian Herald (ANI) Wednesday 7th December, 2011
The Australian Cricketers Association (ASA) has welcomed the Cricket Australia (CA) review to shape new injury management procedures, saying that it was vital to the board's aim of returning the national team to the top of world cricket in all three forms of the game.
"A review is most certainly, absolutely, desperately needed, it's a good starting point. Australian cricket doesn't have the depth that it had over the last 10, 20 years. We haven't got ready-made replacements like we've had in the past," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted ACA chief Paul Marsh, as saying.
"We just can't afford to have our best players sitting on the sidelines if we're going to return to No.1 in all forms. Our members want to be out on the park, they don't want to be missing games, they need to get their bodies ready for state and international cricket. It appears for various reasons that that system is failing at the moment," he added.
The review, recommended by the Don Argus report, was launched several weeks ago and is being headed by CA's sports science and sports medicine manager Peter Blanch.
A report by Blanch, who is based at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane, is however not due to be completed until the new year.
